In honor of, “National Get to Know Your Customer Day,” FBS connected with a few of our customers to learn more about them and their company. We spoke to builders we’ve worked with for years and others we’re still cultivating a relationship with, and even though their companies all started differently, there were three things they all had in common:
Ambition. Talent. Family.
Harvard Homes

If you follow Harvard Homes on social media, it’s clear to see that Beth Silva, Founder & Head of Design, is one busy woman. We were able to catch her in between projects and spending time with her family [which includes two young boys under the age of five] to ask her a few questions.
*Psst: be sure to check out her new home office– it’s a show stopper!
Q: Why did you start Harvard Homes?
A: Harvard Homes started out of a personal desire to make the process of designing and building a new home [or remodel] better.
Searching for the perfect home in Houston is exhausting. Getting what you want in your price range can feel impossible. Feeling all those things ourselves, we thought, “Why can’t we build it ourselves?” So, we did. The first Harvard Home was our own.
Q: Where were you born?
A: Houston – but have lived in Colorado & California
Q: Do you have a family?
A: I have a husband and 2 very busy boys (a 2 & 4 year old)
Q: Favorite food?
A: Asian never disappoints, but I also can never get enough Tex-Mex!

PS: They might have the cutest PR “person” ever… It’s Beth’s Dog, Violet!
Monarch Custom Homes

You have to be a “weird animal” to want to work in this business, but I love it.
One of the many things Fermin Garcia, owner of Monarch Custom Homes, shared with me as I spent the day with him at one of his job sites in Spring, Texas.
Fermin Garcia has owned Monarch Custom Homes, LLC for over seven years and has over fifteen years of home building experience. He attributes his success to his peers, acknowledging it’s his fellow builders who push him to stay at the forefront of innovation.
Rooted in Christian faith, Fermin donates his time and expertise to a local orphanage, mentors aspiring home builders, and spends as much time with his favorite people [his wife & daughters] as possible. Lucky for us, Fermin agreed to a video interview so you can learn more about him & his business straight from him:
After the interview we asked Fermin about his life outside of Monarch Custom homes. We learned about his family, that he has great taste in food and music, and that he’s a softy when it comes to his girls!

Shady Creek Custom Builders

Expertise. Artistry. Commitment.
Those three words are the foundation of Shady Creek Custom Builders & the founders themselves, Kyle & Shawn Bookout. This married power couple was kind enough to take a break from building BEAUTIFUL homes [and enjoying the outdoors] to chat with us!
Q: Why did you start Shady Creek Custom Builders?
A: At the age of 10, Kyle started a fishing rod wrapping business (yes, you read that right!). That spirit of entrepreneurship, along with a strong work ethic and a dedication to excellence, carried throughout his life. Today, he partners with his wife, Shawn Bookout, and the two of them are the proud owners of Shady Creek Custom Builders. For over 27 years, Kyle & Shawn have worked hand-in-hand, merging their passions and talents to complement each other’s strengths with the goal of building exceptional custom homes.
Q: Where were you born?
A: Kyle is a Texan from birth & Shawn spent most of her life surrounded by water and living close to the beach.
Q: Do you have any hobbies?
A: Kyle & Shawn love the simple joys of spending time with family and friends on Shady Creek Farms and both have a love for the great outdoors; You can find them fishing or gardening.
