Self-driving cars, phones with face recognition, virtual reality. New technological advances continue to make our lives easier and the same can be said for new appliance technology. With manufacturers putting an emphasis on connectivity and ease of use, the technology in appliances has improved dramatically this past year and continues to improve.
Jenn-Air Wi-Fi Connected Refrigerator

Model: JFFCC72EFS
Jenn-Air’s new connected refrigerator allows you to manage and view your refrigerator settings via an easy-to-use app. One of the features on the app is your ability to control the temperature of the refrigerator and freezer separately from each other due to the dual evaporators in the fridge. This can come in handy when you’re coming home from the store and need to cool down your refrigerator to keep it cold while putting away the groceries.
The app also notifies you when the door is left open or you can tell your refrigerator to make extra ice before a dinner party. In addition to controlling temperature, the app keeps track of when you should replace water and air filters. Now that’s a smart refrigerator!
Samsung Flex-Duo Range
Samsung’s new Flex-Duo ranges and ovens are Wi-Fi connected so you can preheat or change your oven temperature without having to get up. But the best part of the range is the new Flex-Duo technology. This appliance technology allows you to use your single oven like a double oven. A Smart Divider can be inserted in the oven cavity to split the oven in half. These halves can be independently controlled allowing you to bake dishes at different temperatures at the same time. There are two convection fans in the oven so it’s the same as having a double convection oven.
Of course, if you need the entire oven capacity you can remove the Smart Divider. Conversely, if you’re only baking one dish, keep the divider in to reduce preheating time and save energy.

GE Café Dishwasher

Model: CDT865SSJSS
We’re also seeing more and more innovative dishwasher technology. GE Café has added more jets to their dishwasher for sparkling clean dishes. It has more than 140 cleaning jets, covering every corner of your dishwasher. The dishwasher also has dedicated bottle jets, to finally clean those tall containers with small openings. The dishwasher features silverware jets as well. I wasn’t kidding about all the jets. Throw your silverware in the basket with confidence, they’ll get cleaned.
This GE Café dishwasher is packed with advanced technology. It has separate wash zones so you can efficiently wash half loads without running the entire dishwasher. 3rd racks have been in dishwasher for a while, but it’s another great feature of the GE Café.
Bonus Appliance Technology: Miele’s Dialog Oven
This oven will be introduced in Europe in 2018 before Miele considers an American launch but the appliance technology is mind-blowing. It’ll change the way we cook. The oven uses electromagnetic waves and antennas to rearrange the food molecules to perfectly cook meats side-by-side with vegetables. The oven actually detects various foods, targets them with waves and receives feedback on the amount of energy absorbed by the food. It sounds like science-fiction, but you can cook a fillet of fish in a block of ice without melting the ice. While this technology isn’t available now, it’s on the horizon.

Appliance technology has advanced past the days of your refrigerator just cooling food and not notifying you to order filters, your range simply cooking food and not being 2 ovens in one and your dishwasher spraying water on dishes and not offering over 140 jets. And the best thing? Our kitchens are continuing to get smarter and smarter making our lives easier and easier.
