We couldn’t let National “Back to the Future” Day pass without some acknowledgement, so here are five (5) smart appliances that would make Doc Brown proud.
It might not print your meals, but JennAir’s Culinary Centre Touch Screen Wall Oven makes cooking easier by giving you step by step assistance. You simply scroll to the meal you’d like to cook on the touch screen (like a prime rib cooked medium rare) and then follow the prompts. The oven will tell you which pan to use, the oven rack to place it on, the temperature, the cook time, EVERYTHING! You can even load your own presets for dishes you cook most often (and of course there’s an app).
KitchenAid’s Smart Oven+ does something similar to JennAir but comes with attachments- I know what you’re thinking, “What possible attachments could an oven need?” These. Your oven needs these. Your oven instantly turns into a steamer, grill, or stone cooker by simply “plugging in” an attachment. The mobile app allows you to remotely monitor and control it, suggest when it’s time to tend the food, or like the JennAir, enter your own cooking instructions and save time for Future You. It’s even compatible with Google Assistant & Alexa.
Professional, amateur, and “not even close” chefs alike will love GE Profile Kitchen Hub. This vent hood is basically a MASSIVE touch screen that allows you to download apps straight from the app store making it even easier to follow your Pinterest recipes, be on a video chat, stream movies on Netflix & Hulu, or rock out to your favorite playlist. Guys, it even has DUAL CAMERAS! This means you can record a Facebook Live of yourself AND your cook top for your soon to be famous cooking show and upload photos of your delicious meals straight to Instagram- From. Your. VENT HOOD!
Have you ever been driving around in your Tesla wishing you could preheat your oven? Well, Thermador has got you covered with the Home Connect app which integrates with not only every Thermador WiFi appliance, but every wifi smart system in your home from your washing machine to oven, from coffee machine to vacuum cleaner all in a single app. You can even program your coffee machine to make you a cup of coffee as a reward when you’ve sent a certain number of emails [something I feel Emmett “Doc” Brown Ph.D would appreciate].
Last but not least, the Samsung’s Family Hub Refrigerator which allows you to peek inside without having to open the door from your kitchen, or anywhere else for that matter, using the app. It will also suggests recipes based on its contents (mine would suggest a lot of cocktails, or a trip to the market). It can play music, stream content, and check to see who’s at your door- YOUR FRIDGE CAN DO THIS! The app also allows you to preheat your oven, get an alert when your laundry is done, and so much more. It really is your family’s hub. For fun, check out Samsung Bot Chef, a robot assistant (basically just robot arms) that made an appearance at IFA in 2019.
Even though hover-boards are still a thing of the future, at least we have some pretty stellar appliances to make our current lives easier. What will they think of next?!
