Kitchen Updates for 2016
2016 has a lot to offer when it comes to doing a remodel. Our team was recently at KBIS and learned all about the up and coming trends for 2016. Out of everything we learned we picked our top 6 for 2016.
1. Well Lit Cabinets and Drawers
The right lighting in a luxury kitchen can make everything shine. Homeowners won’t settle for just ceiling lights and table lamps to illuminate their kitchens in 2016. Low-voltage light tape strips can be used to accent pieces below, above, and inside cabinets. These features grouped with recessed can lights to offer better mood-setting capabilities providing you with ambience and depth that highlight the details in your kitchen.
2. Mix Countertop Materials
As one of the largest kitchen surfaces, counter tops can create a powerful design statement. With more countertop options to choose from, such as: metal, granite, marble, quartz, glass, wood chopping block, and other solid surface materials, mixing countertops is easy. Complementing a marble countertop with wood has a comfortable feel. Complementing a granite or quartz countertop with glass can be striking. Glass countertops come in multiple textures and colors, and can even be lit for stunning results.
3. Black Appliances
Although kitchen color trends are dominated by white and off-white, increasing popularity in grays, blacks and slate kitchen appliances bring a classic and modern look in 2016. KitchenAid’s Black Stainless Steel line offers a softer, warmer alternative to traditional stainless steel. It’s sleek touches feature a satin texture handle and is fingerprint resistance.
Electrolux’s Ebony Kitchen collection provides a striking contrast to conventional appliances. It offers the latest in Electrolux technology including touch electronic controls, smooth black flat panel doors and a sleek frameless black exteriors, complemented with brushed steel handles.
Jenn-Air also has built-in refrigerators with the new Obsidian interior. These refrigerators take the sleek dark look to the interior of your refrigerator. Within your food is transformed and dramatically illuminated by LED lighting allowing all contents to provide a dazzling display.
These dark colors blends well with other colors and regular stainless appliances, even lighting fixtures. This look is a great alternative if a splash of bold color, such as blue, red or yellow, is not your style.
4. Tech Savvy Appliances
What if your oven could text you to notify you it just finished cooking your dinner? In 2016 if you decide to purchase a smart appliance it could happen. Ovens are becoming Wifi enabled and by simply downloading an app you can turn your oven on or off from anywhere and your oven can notify you when your food is done cooking. Refrigerators are also coming out with mobile apps so you can monitor temperatures, settings and make a cup of coffee thanks to the GE Keurig refrigerator. And to top if off Whirlpool has a washer and dryer combo with an app that lets you start cycles remotely, get alerted when cycles are complete and even be reminded for optimal maintenance.
5. Steam Ovens
The steam oven is the biggest revolution in the home kitchen. It does everything that the microwave does except heat up a cup of coffee or make popcorn – but the quality of the food is much better. It’s particularly good for ‘refreshing’ food from the day before. Pairing a steam oven with a convection oven is replacing a double oven in homes in 2016.
6. Metal Range Hoods
Metal will assume a more dominant role in kitchen aesthetics and trump wood as the range hood of choice in 2016. Wood mantle hoods are being replaced with metal hoods or ones that are a combination of wood and metal. If have a neutral colored kitchen, a metal hood can introduce a burst of contrast and provide a beautiful focal point in your kitchen.
