Universal Design – A New Approach to Kitchen Design

The goal of this course is to review the tenets of Universal Design, understand the various products and designs available to meet UD guidelines, and review opportunities to update current design schemes with utility for the majority of consumers.

Learning Objectives:

•  Understand the concept of Universal Design (UD).
•  Review opportunities to incorporate UD into a kitchen design.
•  Learn about how kitchen appliances are designed to meet UD guidelines.
•  Review installation options that meet the tenets of UD.

Originally from Milwaukee, WI, Alex attended the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, graduated with a B.S. degree with a minor in Business Administration in 2006. She began her career with GE in 2010 as an Area Merchandising Specialist out in San Francisco, CA and was then promoted to an Area Sales Manager in 2012. Alex was responsible for increasing sales in the Bay Area by calling on key dealers, training associates on product and understanding the value proposition of the GE Brand. In 2013 Alex was promoted to Lead Sales Support Specialist which is when she relocated to Chicago to help open the second Monogram Design Center, in the Merchandise Mart Building. She was promoted in September, 2014 to Design & Business Development Mgr. In this role, she managed the events, worked with the local sales teams to build relationships with key partners, facilitated Monogram dealer training-on and offsite, and assisted designers, architects and consumers who were specifying Monogram appliances for single and multi-family projects. In 2015 Alex was promoted to Designer Development Manager for Monogram. She works with the NKBA and ASID organizations on a national level; project manages the Monogram/Dwell Magazine road trip tour and works with the trade community throughout the US. In 2017 Alex was promoted to the Designer Engagement Leader – Central Region. In this role Alex will continue to manage NKBA & ASID on a national level and grow the Monogram brand with the trade community in the Central Region.

Alex regularly leads tours and presentation in the showroom, and enjoys educating others on appliance configurations, technology and installation solutions. She is active in NKBA, ASID, and AIA. Alex has a passion for this industry and for this premium brand-it is evident in her ability to build relationships and her service to our clientele. She recently expanded her role in the Chicago Design Center and won a coveted Manager’s award for her efforts and performance. Her constant search to learn more about the industry, so she can share that with others is a major contributor in her career success.
